William Boyd Winters, Jr. age 87, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020. Mr. Winters was born on May 24, 1933 in Douglas, Georgia, the son of the late William Boyd Winters Sr and Ruby Davis Winters. Mr. Winters was co-owner and manager of New Forest Finance, a member of the Lions Club and Exchange Club and a member of Lone Hill United Methodist Church. Satilla Riverkeeper and a team of dedicated volunteers conduct water quality sampling at 10 public landings on the Satilla River Water Trail. As we move into the fall and winter, Satilla Riverkeeper will sample each site once a month. The most recent testing took place on Tuesday, October 20. One of the parameters volunteers test is bacteria. The concentration of Escherichia coli (E. coli), a species of coliform bacteria found in the gastrointestinal tract and feces of mammals, can be an indicator of the presence of other harmful bacteria or pathogens in the water. The Coffee County Young Farmers placed second in the annual Georgia Young Farmer Que Fest on Friday, October 16, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds. In the past, the Que Fest would have been held in conjunction with the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition. However, this year, due to COVID-19, the event was originally cancelled. Bobby Ray Coleman, age 80, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mr. Coleman was born on December 26, 1939 in Coffee County, Georgia, the son of the late Jesse Coleman and Hazel Baker Coleman. Mr. Coleman worked with Midland-Ross Janitrol as an aerospace tech specialist, a volunteer firefighter for 15 years in Columbus, Ohio, a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of the American Legion Post # 17 Douglas and was of the Baptist faith. Jenny Thompson, a registered nurse at Coffee Regional Medical Center, is the DAISY Award winner for the second quarter of 2020. CRMC honored Thompson at a ceremony held on Oct. 15, 2020. A family member of a patient nominated Thompson, who works on the Emergency Room, for showing professionalism and compassion during a very difficult time. Created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, The DAISY Foundation honors nurses internationally. It is with great sadness that we announce passing of Mr. Claude Reed October 14, 2020 at Hazlehurst Court Care and Rehab Center, Hazlehurst, Georgia. He is the son of the late Mr. Mozell Reed and Mrs. Henrrieta Thomas Reed. Mr. Claude Reed is survived by his five children; Terry Claude Reed, Prudence Riley, Jeanetta Reed James, Nicole High, Edith Reed, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
