During the month of October, the City of Douglas will be offering several promotions for customers to kick off Douglas’s 125th birthday celebrations. Throughout the month, activities will be designed to educate and show appreciation for Douglas customers. Customer Appreciation Month will be held the entire month of October. Customers are encouraged to register for a $100 credit on their utility account that three lucky customers will win at the end of the month. The meeting will be held in the Family Ministry Center at the Douglas First Baptist Church beginning at 7 PM. On September 15, 2020, Coffee County deputies responded to a residence on Eagle Lake Lane in reference to recovery of a firearm. The complainant told officers he had found the weapon beside his mailbox while mowing his yard. The complaint noticed that a window in the residence was open, Deputies checked the inside of the residence to make sure no one was inside. While clearing the residence Deputies noticed a significant amount of blood leading to a damaged gun cabinet with glass laying on the floor. On September 15, 2020 a Coffee County deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Laramey Eugene Knight for a headlight equipment violation. It was determined that Knight’s license was expired. A search of Knight’s vehicle resulted in the location of methamphetamine. The Coffee County Drug Unit was notified. Knight, 35, of Forsyth, was arrested and booked into the Coffee County Jail and has been charged with Driving with an Expired License, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Related Objects. A South Georgia man with multiple prior convictions for selling narcotics has been sentenced to nearly two decades in federal prison. Charlie Williams, 38, of Alma, Ga., was sentenced to 190 months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Lisa Godbey Wood after pleading guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Five Grams or More of Methamphetamine, and Quantities of Hydromorphone and Marijuana, said Bobby L. Christine, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. After completion of his prison term, Williams must serve four years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. …
