The four members of a Texas family who crafted an elaborate scheme to fraudulently obtain multiple Masters Tournament tickets have been sentenced, with the ringleader getting federal prison time. Stephen Michael Freeman, 42, of Athens, Ga., was sentenced to 28 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, by U.S. District Court Chief Judge J. Randal Hall after pleading guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud, said Bobby L. Christine, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. The Coffee Regional Medical Center Volunteers are pleased to announce that their 2020 Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Medical Scholarship was recently awarded to Keyonna Carson, Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Coffee Regional Medical Center (CRMC). The Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Medical Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, is awarded annually to a Coffee County student by the CRMC Volunteers. The Volunteers have proudly awarded this scholarship for over 15 years. There is no requirement that the scholarship be awarded to a CRMC employee. Patricia Lynn Shiver, age 72, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Shiver was born on September 26, 1947 the daughter of the late Rev. Mrs. Kimberly Jean Tharp, 51 of Nicholls, GA passed away on Friday September 11, 2020. She is the daughter of the late Rossel Britten and Nelly Schooley. Mrs. Tharp is survived by her daughters Tanya Yager of Pennsylvania and Amanda Nettles of Douglas, GA; son Geoffery Tharp of Pennsylvania, Donald Hall, and Randy Tharp; grandsons Jace Tharp, Eric Wooten, Alex Yager and Bonnie Christin Hill; granddaughter Alexus Wooten; brothers Joe Eddy and Jim Eddy; sisters Margaret Kiger and Donna Arthur; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. John G. “Buck” Newbern., age 86 of Pearson, Ga., passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 at his home in Pearson following an extended illness. Survivors include: Sister: Marlene Sears of Riegelwood, N.C. Brother: Don Newbern of Donaldsonville, Ga. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Each year, the Satilla Riverkeeper gathers volunteers at sites up and down the Satilla River to do a clean sweep. Last year, 130 volunteers cleaned up eleven sites in the Satilla River watershed. This year things are a little different. “We are encouraging volunteers to gather on their own in small groups, and spend some time picking up trash anywhere in the Satilla River watershed,” Satilla Riverkeeper, Laura Early said. Clean up day is slated for Sept. 19, 2020. Picking up trash at a favorite river spot, park, or even the streets in one’s own neighborhood makes a difference.…
