Mr. Arlie Ervin Ruis, age 68 of Alma, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020 at Ascension St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, following an extended illness. Mr. Ruis was born April 8, 1952 to the late Bertice Lee Ruis and the late Ada Wilma Walkup Ruis. Mr. Ruis, a native of Coffee County, was a tile setter by trade. He was of the Pentecoastal faith. The City of Douglas has been awarded a Roadside Enhancement and Beautification Council (REBC) grant. The REBC Grant Program provides funding for roadside enhancement and beautification projects along Georgia’s right-of-way roadsides. The funding comes from fees paid by outdoor advertising companies to Georgia DOT for vegetation removal at outdoor advertising signs. “We appreciate the REBC and Georgia Department of Transportation offering grants such as this to assist with roadside beautification projects,” says Georgia Henderson, Community Development Director. Christopher McCray, 42, of Coffee County is charged with Falsely Uttering State Lottery Tickets after he allegedly stole lottery tickets from two convenient stores in Coffee County. On November 10, 2020 deputies responded to two separate theft calls at convenient stores in the Oak Park area. Deputies reviewed surveillance footage at both stores and saw a male subject that they were able to identify as Christopher McCray helping himself to lottery tickets behind the counter while the store clerk was distracted.
