Gladys Irene Corbitt, age 82, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 from injuries sustained from an auto accident. Mrs. Corbitt was born on July 24, 1938 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter of the late Homer Deaton and Gladys Burch Deaton. Mrs. Corbitt retired from Golden Poultry and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve D. “Mann” Corbitt, son, Ricky Corbitt and two daughters, Tammy Myers and Nina Faye Corbitt. The City of Douglas and Waste Industries will offer two free residential Junk Drop-Off Days in November to help citizens rid properties of excess trash and large items. The upcoming dates will be Saturday, November 7 and 21, 2020 at the City Pole Yard located at 670 S. Pearl Avenue from 8:30am-12 noon. Citizens must be in the drop off line prior to 11:45am. Our staff has been very busy working with about 35 Cloverleaf 4-H members trying to help them get their speeches and posters ready for competition. Cloverleaf DPA is open to students in fourth through sixth grades. The City of Douglas would like to notify citizens of a new four-way stop intersection located at the intersection of West Bryan Street and South College Avenue. The four-way stop signs have been added for public safety due to the increased volume of accidents at the intersection. To allow time for public education of the new four-way stop, citizens are urged to use caution at this intersection. Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation will begin basketball registration for ages 5-17 on Monday, November 2, 2020. The Southern Georgia Regional Commission (SGRC) received the 2020 Aliceann Wohlbruck Impact Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for the City of Douglas Sidewalk Master Plan. Earlier this year, the SGRC prepared a Sidewalk Master Plan for the City of Douglas at no cost to the community. The primary focus of the plan was to identify where sidewalks are non-existent or needed, prioritize the needs, and to seek funding opportunities. Nettie Jean Clements, age 79, of Nicholls, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Bacon County Hospital, Alma, Georgia. Mrs. Clements was born on January 14, 1941 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter to the late Aaron Anderson and Mamie Lee Taylor Anderson. Mrs. Clements retired as a cook for Sumner’s Landing and Country Girl’s Café and was a member of Dry Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William T. The Lady Trojans wrapped up the 2020 season with a best of three series loss to Jones County, a team that lost in the finals to Locust Grove in 2019 and is favored to win the 2020 state title. Game 1 saw the Lady Trojans get no-hit behind the arm of junior righthander Destin Howard.
