In the fall of 2019, Moody Air Force Base (AFB) began discussions to expand its airspace due to the need for low altitude training for Moody aircrews. Satilla Riverkeeper and a team of dedicated volunteers conduct water quality sampling at 10 public landings on the Satilla River Water Trail. As we move into the fall and winter, Satilla Riverkeeper will sample each site once a month. The most recent testing took place on Tuesday, October 20. One of the parameters volunteers test is bacteria. The concentration of Escherichia coli (E. coli), a species of coliform bacteria found in the gastrointestinal tract and feces of mammals, can be an indicator of the presence of other harmful bacteria or pathogens in the water. The Coffee County Young Farmers placed second in the annual Georgia Young Farmer Que Fest on Friday, October 16, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds. In the past, the Que Fest would have been held in conjunction with the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition. However, this year, due to COVID-19, the event was originally cancelled. Jenny Thompson, a registered nurse at Coffee Regional Medical Center, is the DAISY Award winner for the second quarter of 2020. CRMC honored Thompson at a ceremony held on Oct. 15, 2020. A family member of a patient nominated Thompson, who works on the Emergency Room, for showing professionalism and compassion during a very difficult time. Created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, The DAISY Foundation honors nurses internationally.
