The Coffee County School System will be conducting a Substitute Teacher Workshop on Thursday, September 10, 2020, 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM in the auditorium of Coffee Middle School. The Lady Trojans headed north for three games in The Allatoona Buc Bash in the Atlanta area over the weekend. A total of 371 South Georgia State College students have earned a spot on the Summer 2020 Academic Honors List, according to an announcement today by Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Robert Page. Nineteen students earned a spot on the President’s List, 36 on the Dean’s List, and 316 on the Academic Honors List. The Lady Trojans blew a lead late on the road in Tifton for their first loss of the 2020 season on Monday but bounced back Wednesday with a big win over Camden County. AmeriCorps is a federally funded national service program modeled after the Peace Corps. For more information: www.nationalservice.gov. This is a temporary, national service position, not a traditional employment position. A one-year commitment is required. AmeriCorps State members provide positive 4-H youth development programming under the direction of the County Extension Agent. Satilla Riverkeeper and a team of dedicated volunteers conduct water quality sampling at 10 public landings on the Satilla River Water Trail. During the summer months, water quality samples are taken every two weeks. The most recent testing took place on Monday, August 24th. One of the parameters volunteers test is bacteria. The concentration of Escherichia coli (E. coli), a species of coliform bacteria found in the gastrointestinal tract and feces of mammals, can be an indicator of the presence of other harmful bacteria or pathogens in the water. Mr. Grandville Cullen “G.C.” Simmons, age 82 of Millwood passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 at his home following a brief illness. A native of Axson, Ga., Mr. Simmons was born September 10, 1937, son of Grandville and Shellie White Simmons. He was a retiree of CSX after 32 years of service as supervisor over the car department.
