South Georgia State College is still accepting applications for the summer term, and registration is available with classes beginning June 8, 2020. By taking summer classes, students have an opportunity to complete their degree faster and save money. Dr. Kenneth Trevor Shealy, a native of Cordele, has joined the staff of Fitzgerald Family Eyecare. Dr. Shealy graduated from Crisp County High School. He completed undergraduate studies at Point University in West Point, Ga., where he majored in Biology and minored in Biblical studies. Dr. Shealy graduated from Point University Summa Cum Laude. He earned his Doctorate of Optometry at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. More than a dozen people across the Southern District of Georgia, including one man from Douglas, have been indicted for felony crimes, including federal firearms violations, during an unprecedented virtual grand jury session necessitated by COVID-19 precautions. In addition to firearms charges, the 13 indictments span a range of federal charges including drug trafficking and immigration violations, said Bobby L. Mary Bowen Hightower, age 92, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning, May 16, 2020. Mrs. Hightower was born on November 25, 1927 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter of the late Seaborn Elish Bowen and Beulah Woods Bowen.
