Leana Atkinson of Broxton is among seven recent high school graduates statewide who have each been awarded a $3,000 scholarship from the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture. An additional seven graduating high school seniors each received $1,500 scholarships from the foundation. The scholarships recognize and assist deserving and outstanding students pursuing college degrees in agriculture or an ag-related degree at a college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College. The City of Douglas would like to ask visitors to City Hall to please use the “My Mobile Check In” app during business hours 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. The app is free and will allow customers to wait in their vehicles until the time to enter City Hall to conduct business. To download the app, customers should go to the Apple App or Google Play Store and download “My Mobile Check In.” After downloading the app, the customer will be asked to create a profile. Recently the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance for managing COVID-19 related issues. In response to the guidance, the University System of Georgia announced a new face mask policy on July 6 which will be in place for all USG institutions, including South Georgia State College. As of July 15, 2020, masks or face coverings will be required in campus buildings at all SGSC locations.SGSC will be providing two masks each to students, faculty and staff to support compliance with this policy. According to a press release issued by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, a bus was reported stolen from Jewell’s Recycling, located on First Avenue South in Oak Park. Deputies got on the case when, on July 6, they received a complaint about fencing in the roadway. When deputies arrived, they saw that a break-in had taken place. Our sweet little lady Scarlett Sandra Miller was born on September 18, 2017. She was such a blessing to our family. She was full of sass and entertainment and always brought so much joy to anyone she was around. Thank you, Lord for lending us this little angel for the past two years and ten months.
