Joseph Leland Mullis, age 89, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Pruitt Health, Ocilla, Georgia. Mr. Mullis was born on December 19, 1930 in Bibb County, Georgia, the son of the late Hollis Mullis and Nellie Kelly Mullis. Mr. Mullis was a graduate of Lanier High School, Macon, GA and attended Mercer University. He retired after forty-three years as a pharmaceutical sales representative for McKesson Drug Company, was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War and was a member of First Baptist Church in Douglas. Miss Willie Mae McKinnon, age 92 of Douglas, passed away early Sunday morning, May 10, 2020 at Vista Park Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. Miss McKinnon was born March 12, 1928 to the late Monroe McKinnon, Sr. and the late Mary Jane Carver McKinnon. Spencer Highsmith, a native of Coffee County, was recently selected to serve as the Young Farmer Advisor for Coffee County starting July 1, 2020. Spencer received his B.A.S. degree in Diversified Agriculture from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA in 2014. He has since taught Ag Education at George Washington Carver Freshman Campus for five years and most recently taught Ag Mechanics at Coffee High School. Coffee County School Nutrition’s Summer Feeding Program will begin May 26 and will run through July 7, at pickup sites throughout the county. Meal service will begin at designated sites at approximately 10:00 a.m. each Tuesday, but there may be delays at some sites until a routine is established. Each child will pick up one meal package that includes breakfast and lunch for five days. No residential drop-off service will be provided during this program, and there will be no meal service on June 30. Mr. Tony Waldo Jefferson, age 63, of Alapaha, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020, at his home following a short illness. Survivors include: Daughter Cassie Jefferson and husband Daniel of Willacoochee; son Anthony Jefferson and wife Mandy of Brunswick; sister Brenda Jordon of Melbourne, FL; seven grandchildren and several other relatives also survive.
