Joseph Harper, age 48, of Folkston, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Harper was born on March 31, 1971 in Coffee County, Georgia, the son of the late Johnnie Harper Jr. and Betty Jean Melton Harper. Mr. Harper worked in construction and was of the Holiness faith. The South Georgia State College Hawks snatched the lead late in the game in a 14-4 victory over Thomas University JV Tuesday, March 3, 2020. The game was tied at four with the Hawks batting at the top of the sixth when JR Lonon drew a walk, scoring one run. The third seed South Georgia State College Hawks punched their ticket to the semifinals of the GCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Tuesday night by defeating the sixth seed Gordon State Highlanders, 71-63. Three Hawks finished in double figures, led by Marquise Jackson with 19 points and four steals. Bryce Brown had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Officials with the City of Douglas and the Georgia Municipal Association urge citizens to educate themselves on actions to stay well-informed and safe with the recent coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreaks and the two confirmed Georgia cases.
