On January 27, at the monthly school board meeting, the winners of the annual Christmas card contest, sponsored by Satilla REMC, were announced. This contest is designed for students in grades K-5 in Satilla’s service area to create and share their own uniquely designed Christmas card to go along with the theme, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” This year, Satilla received approximately 2,000 entries from elementary and primary schools within the service area. At the monthly school board meeting, which was held on January 27, the board discussed the Smart Change Program, a program that goes hand in hand with the Satilla REMC Foundation, an organization founded and sponsored by the Satilla REMC. The foundation was founded in 2000, and allows members to round-up their electric bills to the next even dollar value, and the “change” goes to the education-oriented Satilla REMC Foundation. Since it began, the foundation has awarded over $2 million for educational purposes to different schools and programs. Cindy Irene Morrow, age 68, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Sunday February 2, 2020 at her residence. Joseph, a 6’0” sophomore from St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, averaged 22 points and 6.5 rebounds in wins over Albany Tech (79-62) and Gordon State (75-71).
