Wiregrass signs apprenticeships with Transpower, Optima Chemical The term apprenticeship is making a comeback in Georgia and through the Technical College System of Georgia. Wiregrass Tech has recently signed apprenticeship agreements with two local industries, Transpower and Optima Chemical. Three students from the college are not only working toward their college education, but they are working in their field of study. The apprenticeship program through Wiregrass is a method of training individuals in a trade using a combination of on-the-job skills development and classroom/lab related instruction. On Tuesday, September 10, Kay Yvette Taylor, 41, of Douglas, was arrested and charged with one count of theft by taking and one count of arson first degree. The charges stem from her alleged involvement in setting a fire that occurred on August 17 at a Dollar General store that she managed. Taylor currently sits in Coffee County Jail awaiting a bond hearing. “The fire was set while customers were inside the store.
