It’s time for month 4-H meetings again By Kevin D. Tatum County Extension Coordinator, Coffee County With school starting up again for the new school year, it’s time to get back to our monthly 4-H meetings with our 4-H members. We are in the process of discussing in-school meeting times with teachers and principals and students will be notified by their teacher of their meeting time. However, our students in 7th and 8th grades (Junior 4-H members) hold their meetings twice a month at the 4-H office. Their first meeting will be on Thursday, August 22, from 4 to 5 PM. The…
Georgia Water Coalition hosting coal ash meeting tomorrow in Douglas Please join Georgia Water Coalition member organizations in Douglas for a community meeting to discuss coal ash. The meeting will take place on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 408 East Ashley Street. Millions of tons of coal ash (toxic waste product from burning coal) are dumped in Georgia each year. Whitehead awards Wiregrass graduates with Tradesman Award Recent and soon-to-be graduates from Wiregrass Georgia Technical College were recognized by Whitehead Industrial Hardware of Valdosta with a special Tradesman Award. Mr. Edgar “Eddie” C. Brunner, age 54 of Pearson, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Memorial University Hospital in Savannah. Survivors include: Daughters Monica Kay Brunner and fiancé Dustin Bennett of Blackshear and Brittney Brunner of Blackshear; brother John Brunner and wife Hope of Denton; sister Charlotte Brunner of Pearson; grandson Bryson Brunner; and several other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Brunner were held, Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 4:00 P.M. at Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson. The interment followed at Sunnyside Cemetery. Relihan Funeral Home in was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Carl Edward Beecher kept a scheduled appointment with Jesus at 11:00 P.M. on August 3, 2019. He arrived on time, never wanting to be late. Mr. Beecher was born March 11, 1938 to the late Frank Beecher and the late Bell Smith Beecher. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Beecher. Mr. Beecher, a native of Coffee County, was a farmer. He was a member of Harvest Time Church of God. SGSC students attend production of Mamma Mia! at the Peach State Summer Theatre Recently, South Georgia State College students took a trip to see Mamma Mia! at the Peach State Summer Theatre in Valdosta. They were accompanied by Sandra Adams, SGSC interim dean of students and housing and Katherine LeRoy-Lawson, SGSC assistant professor of theatre. “This trip was especially rewarding because we were able to see one of our alumni perform in the show,” LeRoy-Lawson stated. New children’s digital library launches throughout state Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS) is proud to launch eRead Kids, a new digital library available through all 407 public libraries in the state.
