SGSC announces summer Academic Honors lists for Coffee, Atkinson A total of 369 South Georgia State College students have earned a spot on the Summer 2019 Academic Honors List, according to an announcement today by Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Robert Page. Nineteen students earned a spot on the President’s List, 20 on the Dean’s List, and 330 on the Academic Honors List. Students enrolled in 12 or more semester hours of study with a grade point average of 4.0 are placed on the President’s List for the semester. The SGSC women’s soccer team opened conference play with a quality road win at Georgia Military College Tuesday, August 27. The Lady Hawks opened the scoring in the 25th minute as Serena Nelson intercepted a pass in the midfield and immediately played in Monse Hernandez, who scored from about 25 yards out in the lower left hand corner. Mrs. Betty Sue Anderson Stone, age 72 of Nicholls, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at her sister’s home following an extended illness. Mrs. Stone was born in Pearson on January 20, l947, to the late Albert and Sarah Ann Hutchinson Anderson. She was a homemaker and worked at Walmart for many years. SGSC students discover love of history on trip to St. Simons Island In 1810, the first lighthouse on St. Simons Island was completed, only to be destroyed during the Civil War years later. The current lighthouse was built in 1872 and still serves as an active aid to navigation and a tourist favorite when visiting the island as demonstrated by a group from South Georgia State College (SGSC). New clinic for the uninsured opens in Coffee County As the community healthcare provider for Coffee and Atkinson County, Coffee Regional Medical Center (CRMC ) has a charitable mission that includes accepting patients regardless of their ability to pay. In 2018 alone, CRMC provided $21,321,727 in indigent care for the community.
