Thomas Charles “Punkin” Kight, age 71, of Broxton, passed away on Saturday July 7, 2019 at Community Hospice, Vidalia. Mr. Kight was born on August 18, 1947 in Coffee County, the son of the late Luther Kight and Christine Deen Kight. He was a local farmer, a member of the Cambusters Club and a member of Mt. Pleasant “Byrd” Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry L. Kight and Ray Fisher Kight. Mrs. Hursey was born on December 9, 1935 in Coffee County, the daughter of the late Daniel Williard Cady and Beadie Mae Morgan Cady. She was a homemaker and a member of Chatterton Holiness Baptist Church. Mary Carol, the sixth child of the late Raleigh W. and Bertie Robinson, was born on December 25, 1944 in Nashville, TN. SGSC’s Will Ferguson, Riley Meloncon named Academic All-Americans Two members of South Georgia State College’s 2018-2019 men’s basketball team have been recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their academic achievements. The City of Douglas Fire Department would like to encourage citizens to practice safety with fireworks and would like to make the public aware of a few facts about the fireworks law. The State of Georgia allows for consumer fireworks to be sold statewide. A state license to sell fireworks can be issued to applicants after the applicant meets specific insurance and criminal background requirements and pays the state license fee.
