Adams awarded GFB Scholarship for Agriculture Dawson Adams of Douglas is one of 12 recipients of the 2019 Georgia Farm Bureau Scholarships for Agriculture for graduating high school seniors. Adams is one of five students to receive a $3,000 scholarship. The other seven students are receiving $1,500 scholarships. The scholarships recognize and assist deserving and outstanding students pursuing college degrees in agriculture or an ag-related degree at a college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College. After three years, the Perimeter Road widening project, which includes a new overpass on the east railroad crossing, is all but over. All lanes are expected to open Tuesday, May 21, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The $32.9 million project to widen and reconstruct SR 135/Douglas perimeter road has improved traffic flow and city officials are eager to see its impact on commercial development. Effie Kirkland, age 90, of Alma, passed away Sunday May 19, 2019 at Bacon County Hospital. Mrs. Kirkland was born on May 6, 1929 in Bacon County the daughter of the late William “Tub” Tanner and Lula Tanner. Effie worked as a seamstress and was a member of Wilsonville Church of God. Wiregrass Tech to host career exploration camp Parents may register students for Wiregrass’ Career Exploration Camp happening this June at the Coffee Campus of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.
