The South Georgia State College Waycross Campus is proud to announce its second annual film festival on April 18, 2019. The SGSC Film Festival is hosted by the English Department and Academic Success and will include video projects created by SGSC students currently enrolled in World Literature I or II. On Wednesday, March 20, a miracle happened on the campus of Westside Elementary School. One of their students, Luis Villalon-Gomez was with Dr. Dana Tyre, a Speech Pathologist on the campus, when he fell out of his chair onto the floor. Thinking he may have had a seizure, Dana quickly called the front office and Mrs. Jowers announced Code Blue. South Georgia State College (SGSC) is beefing up its summer class offerings this year with a new program entitled Pre-flight Academic Summer Schedule (PASS). The eight-week summer program provides students just graduating from high school a chance to ease their transition into college and to build a strong academic foundation for success. Students participating in the program will receive full college credit for completed courses while enjoying a fun-filled summer at SGSC. Mr. Kyle Aubrey Murray, age 52 of Douglas, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 at his residence following a short illness. Mr. Murray was born June 2, 1966 to the late Clinton Murray and the late Ruby Inez Rentz Murray. Mr. Murray was a self-employed farmer. Survivors include: Daughters Kiala Alisha Murray of Dublin and Kaci Alyssa Murray of Douglas; son Tony Lee Wilson of Cordele; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Mrs. Jane Frances Tanner Vincent, age 82 of Axson, passed away Wednesday morning, March 27, 2019 at Baptist Village in Waycross following an extended illness. Mrs. Vincent was born October 10, 1936 to the late Thomas Jonathan Tanner and the late Beadie Guthrie Tanner. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Vincent and four brothers, Ralph Tanner, Ben Tanner, Mark Tanner and Jonathan Tanner. Mrs. Vincent was a homemaker. Touchton David Tarrance, age 79, of West Green, passed away on Saturday April 6, 2019 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Tarrance was born on February 10, 1940 in Nicholls, the son of the late Ivy Touchton Tarrance and Lula Kirkland Tarrance. He was a prominent tobacco auctioneer, a farmer and a member of West Green Church of God. He was also was a member of the Georgia National Guard from 1957 to 1969. Venita Joan Milhollin, age 92, of Douglas, passed away on Friday April 5, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Milhollin was born on March 19, 1927, in Douglas. She was the daughter of the late Ralph Jacob Paulk and Una Mixon Paulk. We all knew her as Mama or Granny. She taught kindergarten, read stories over the radio for the library of the University of Georgia children’s hour, served as the wife of a Georgia legislator, raised a family teaching us to love one another and love God. James was born on October 14, 1965 in Atlanta, the son of James Tyrone Wooten and Nellie Mae Mulkey Wooten.
