Mr. Osbin Harper age 81, of West Green, passed away Tuesday morning, on February 12, 2019, from an extended illness at his residence 1821 Wildwood Road in West Green. Mr. Harper was a retired prominent farmer in Broxton and West Green. Osbin loved spending his time with pet dog Charlie, family and friends. His face would light up with a joking smile on Christmas and other special occasions. The South Georgia State College swim teams took second at the Sun Coast meet in Orlando last week. “We were the only junior college swim team in the conference and to finish second to six four-year schools is a great accomplishment for our team,” stated SGSC head coach CM Jenkins. Keiser University won both sides of the competition while UNC Pembroke women’s team placed third and Thomas University took third for the men. The SGSC Hawks have won their last three games – all on the road – as the 2019 season enters its second month. The Hawks defeated Florida State College-Jacksonville on Feb. 7 in Jacksonville by a 6-3 margin. Then they traveled to Allendale, S.C., where they defeated USC-Salkehatchie on Feb. 8, sweeping a double-header 8-6 and 10-4. Coffee County Senior Center has been awarded a grant from Thanks Mom & Dad Fund, a charity that honors parents, grandparents, and mentors by supporting programs and services for older adults. Coffee County Senior Center was included among 53 senior centers across Georgia that received a Senior Center Innovation mini-grant. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College held the Fall 2018 Commencement Exercises on Friday, December 14 at the UGA Conference Center in Tifton. The ceremony honored 509 students who were awarded their associate degree, diploma or technical certificate of credit as well as 41 GED graduates. Among those graduating, the college awarded 55 associate degrees, 143 diplomas, and 586 technical certificates. Some students received technical certificates in multiple areas. By: Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator Coffee County junior and senior 4-H members traveled to Rock Eagle 4-H Center the weekend of February 1-3 and competed in District Project Achievement. Forty-three students completed portfolios. This portfolio accounts for 40-50 percent of their total DPA score. They also had to present a 10-12 minute presentation on their project which accounted for the balance of their score. Forty-one competed in the presentation contest.
