Coffee Regional Medical Center EMS was recently selected as the 2018 Georgia Emergency Medical Service of the Year by the Georgia EMS Association (GEMSA). CRMC EMS was nominated for Service of the Year along with many other rural and metropolitan services. EMS Day at the Capitol was February 21, 2019 concluded by the EMS Awards reception that evening at the Georgia Freight Depot. South Georgia State College baseball defeated the Thomas University JV by a score of 16-6 in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday, February 25, thanks in part to Greg Wozniak who drove in four runs. Wozniak started in the first with a single and went on to get a double in the second and another single in the fourth. Mrs. Beatrice Harper, age 69 of Lumber City, passed away late Saturday night, February 23, 2019, at Lumber City Nursing Home in Lumber City. She was born March 4, 1949 to the late Arthur Lee Gibson and the late Allie Mathis Gibson. She had been a waitress at Lillie’s Café when it was on Peterson Avenue. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include: Nieces Barbara Baker of Milton, Fla., and Rosie Merritt of Douglas; long-time friend Melvin Davis of Lumber City; eight sisters and four brothers. Bobby Lonnie Mann, age 82, of Nicholls, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Mann was born on March 29, 1936, in Polk County, Florida to the late Lonnie Mann and Lovie Williams Mann. Mr. Mann was retired Master Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy serving last on the USS Ticonderoga. He served during the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith. Longtime Coffee County resident Amanda Kay Floyd Wynn, a mom, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, and a friend to many, was called home on February, 23 2019 at the age of 35. She was born in Douglas on September 29, 1983. She was a student at Coffee High and attended our local South Georgia College. Amanda was a dedicated hard working previous employee of The Therapy Tree in Douglas. The Coffee County Drug Unit announces the following recent arrests for the month of February: Feb. 17 – Officers with the Douglas Police Department responded to an address on Cecil Way after receiving a report of a possible battery. When they arrived, officers detected the scent of marijuana inside the home, and Coffee drug agents responded to the scene. Consent was given to search the residence, and officers discovered various amounts of ecstasy, marijuana, and cocaine. Rev. Grady Vernon Seawright, age 76 of Douglas, passed away Friday evening, February 22, 2019 at his residence following a short illness. Rev. Seawright was born January 6, 1943 to the late Clyde Vernon Seawright and the late Gladys Faulkner Seawright. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Esther Reese Day and Meliah Jade Stevens and seven siblings, Evelyn Hand, Louise Fallin, Jeanette Bozeman, Hazel Jones, J. L.
