Joyce Marie Peterson Brown, age 80, of West Green, passed away on Friday February 1, 2019. Mrs. Brown was born on December 22, 1938 in Coffee County, the daughter of the late Eddie Peterson and Ruth Courson Peterson. She was a homemaker and a member of Lone Hill United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, E.D. Brown. Survivors include two brothers, Eddie Peterson of West Green and Wayne Peterson (Shirley) of Baxley; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Annie Laura Spicer, 91, of Winter Haven, Fla., passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center. Born May 26, 1927 to Judge and Nancy Carver Harper in Georgia she moved to Winter Haven in 1957. She and her late husband, James owned Reed’s Grocery and Annie’s Country Kitchen (later known as Nell’s Diner), as well as owning several rental properties in the southwest Winter Haven area. Mrs. Harper was born on November 29, 1943 in Coffee County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Jim and Mattie Lou Spires Burke. She was a cafeteria worker at Indian Creek Elementary School in the Coffee County School System for the past ten years and attended Harvest Time Church of God. Sandra Kicklighter, age 76, of Douglas, passed away on Monday January 28, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Kicklighter was born on July 12, 1942 in Covington, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Earnest and Naomi Ridley Ross. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Kenneth Kicklighter. Survivors include her son, Jeff Ross of Douglas; daughter, Jackie Rice of Douglas; four grandchildren, Jessica Robinson (Brooks), Joel Ross, Jennifer Rice and Charles Morris; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A suspected cocaine dealer faces drug-related and other multiple charges after briefly evading officers during a vehicle and foot chase earlier this week. The Coffee County Drug Unit attempted to initiate a stop for a traffic violation on Jan. 28 on a vehicle occupied by an individual who had fled from agents during a drug investigation that occurred in 2018. Jan. 11 – The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a possible child abuse case involving a four-month old. The child was taken to Jacksonville, Fla., due to its injuries. As a result of the investigation, Kenneth Kirkland was charged with first degree cruelty to children. The child is expected to make a full recovery.
