Coffee County Senior Center has been awarded a grant from Thanks Mom & Dad Fund, a charity that honors parents, grandparents, and mentors by supporting programs and services for older adults. Coffee County Senior Center was included among 53 senior centers across Georgia that received a Senior Center Innovation mini-grant. These Senior Center Innovation grants, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Human Services, allow centers to update facilities and offer new programs. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College held the Fall 2018 Commencement Exercises on Friday, December 14 at the UGA Conference Center in Tifton. The ceremony honored 509 students who were awarded their associate degree, diploma or technical certificate of credit as well as 41 GED graduates. Among those graduating, the college awarded 55 associate degrees, 143 diplomas, and 586 technical certificates. Some students received technical certificates in multiple areas. James Grobsmith, Waycross native and Wiregrass 2019 Top 4 GOAL Candidate, was the graduation speaker. By: Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator Coffee County junior and senior 4-H members traveled to Rock Eagle 4-H Center the weekend of February 1-3 and competed in District Project Achievement. Forty-three students completed portfolios. This portfolio accounts for 40-50 percent of their total DPA score. They also had to present a 10-12 minute presentation on their project which accounted for the balance of their score. Forty-one competed in the presentation contest. Ms. Lena Charlene Maine, age 69, of Nashville, formerly of Willacoochee, passed away, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at SGMC Berrien Campus in Nashville following a short illness. Survivors include: Brothers Pete Maine and wife Cathy of Georgetown and Joe Maine and wife Linda of Adel; sisters Ottie Smith of Douglas and Sue Luke of Nashville; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Col. Thomas Rance “Smut” Williams, Jr. (ret.), passed away on Friday, January 18 at the age of 82. He was born on November 29, 1936, to the late Thomas Rance Williams, Sr., and Nellie Estelle Shelnutt Williams in Lagrange. He was one of seven children. He was educated in Lagrange city schools and graduated high school at Gordon Military College. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. While his brother was playing football at the University of Georgia, Tom became a lifelong fan of the Bulldogs, and anyone who knew him would say he was “one tough Dawg.”…

Eugene David Greenberg, age 64 of Douglas, passed away on Tuesday February 5, 2019. Mr. Greenberg was born on August 13, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Jack and Blanche Rosen Greenberg. He worked as an emergency room technician. Eddie Sue Turner Partin, age 76, of Douglas, left our world on February 3, 2019 at Memorial University Hospital, Savannah, Georgia. Mrs. Partin was born on March 18, 1942 in Hazlehurst, Georgia to Ed and Gladys Marie Douglas Turner of Hazlehurst, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Stephen Andrew Partin.
