A total of 694 South Georgia State College students have earned a spot on the 2018 Fall Academic Honors List, according to an announcement today by Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Robert Page. A total of 142 students earned a spot on the President’s List, 237 on the Dean’s List, and 315 on the Academic Honors List. Students enrolled in 12 or more semester hours of study with a grade point average of 4.0 are placed on the President’s List for the semester. Coffee Regional Medical Center was pleased to partner with LifeLink of Georgia to honor and remember those who gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. On January 1, 2019 the Donate Life Rose Parade Float, titled Rhythm of the Heart, included a dedication garden made up of roses with handwritten notes by hospital CEO’s from across the country, including Vicki Lewis, CEO of Coffee Regional. Cloverleaf 4-H Camp is a week of fun and learning as 4-H members meet 4-H members from other counties, experience adventure in the workshops at Rock Eagle, swim in one of the two swimming pools, slide down the two story water slide at pool 2, are entertained by the counselors at the variety show, and much more. 4-H members from Coffee County will leave on Monday, July 1, for five days and four nights of fun. The University of Georgia Extension would like to welcome John McLemore as the Agricultural and Natural Resource agent in Coffee County. John is from Hattiesburg, Mississippi where he was raised on a small commercial beef cattle farm. As a youth he was involved in FFA, 4-H, Beta Club, and was an Eagle Scout. As a member of FFA and 4-H he participated in many career development programs which inspired him to pursue a career in Extension. John earned a Bachelor in Agriculture and Information Science and Master of Science degree in Plant and Soil Sciences from Mississippi State University.…
Two people were jailed on multiple drug and other charges New Year’s Eve following a contentious encounter with Coffee County drug agents, according to a post on the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. Around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, a Coffee County K-9 unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a window tint violation and requested an additional unit to assist. After a brief investigation, a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Edward Charles Carter, was discovered to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine and was arrested. Coffee County drug agents arrested multiple people last Thursday during an investigation at a Douglas motel, along with another individual following a search at a residence near Pridgen. Around 8:30 p.m., Dec. 27, executed a search warrant at the Comfortel Suites, also known locally as the Fountain Inn. While executing the warrant, agents intercepted a suspected drug deal in the parking lot involving the intended target of investigation, Leonard Lee Walton, also known as “Chris Youngblood.” Walton led agents on a brief foot pursuit before being apprehended. The City of Douglas and Transwaste are offering one junk drop-off day in January – Saturday, Jan. 5 — at the City Pole Yard located at Pearl Avenue from 8 a.m.-noon. A dumpster will be placed the City Pole Yard, located on Pearl Avenue, to offer Douglas residents a way to dispose of large, non-hazardous items and electronic items at no cost. Friday night, an individual robbed the Flash Foods (Circle K) at 1716 North Peterson Avenue. According to a release posted on the Douglas Police Department’s Facebook page, the person pictured here is responsible for the robbery. He remains at large and officers are asking your help in identifying him.
