As the temperature outside drops, Douglas families take to the indoors to keep safe and warm. What they may not realize is that turning up the heat can increase the risk of home heating fires. After much consideration and negotiating, effective immediately, the City of Douglas has entered into an agreement with the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce to carry out the functions of Main Street, the Douglas Visitor Information Center, and tourism-related events and festivals. Mrs. Tompkins was born on September 20, 1967 in Coffee County, the daughter of the late Raymond and Linda Crozier. She worked as an ophthalmic etch with Murphy Eye Center and was a member of Covenant Church. Warren J. Minchew Sr., age 92, of Douglas, passed away on Sunday January 27, 2019 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mr. Minchew was born on July 16, 1926 in Dorchester, Massachusetts. CSX and Georgia Department of Transportation has notified the City of Douglas that scheduled railroad crossing maintenance in Douglas will begin this week at select rail crossings in town. Tuesday, Jan. 29, maintenance will begin at 8 a.m. at the rail crossings at Gaskin Avenue and McDonald Avenue. On Wednesday, Jan. 30, the crossings at Madison and Peterson avenues will also close for maintenance. These projects will take several days to complete so expect delays as you follow detours through town. The 20th Annual Heart 2 Heart event is scheduled for Saturday morning, February 23 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas. This year, the events will include a 5k run and walk beginning at 8 am and a 1 mile fun run for youth beginning at 7:30 am. In 2018, the event attracted over 260 runners and walkers. Top prize for the overall male and female winners will include $150 VISA cards.
