Charlotte Duckworth Cato, age 62, of Douglas, passed away on Friday December 28, 2018. Charlotte was born on May 2, 1956 in Douglas, the daughter of Joann Bridges Rozar and the late Bobby Claxton Rozar. She worked as a secretary with a Ford dealership and was a member of Faith Chapel. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by a son, Eric Smith. Dec. 28 – Coffee County K-9 units conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Salem Church Road for a tail light violation. During the stop, consent was gained to search the vehicle, and quantities of methamphetamine and illicit prescription tablets were discovered. The driver, Deana Smithers, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. The Coffee Community Foundation is supporting fundraising efforts by Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation North to raise funds to expand the Diesel Technician and Commercial Truck Driving programs on the college’s Coffee Campus with a lead gift of $200,000. The demand for graduates from both programs throughout the region and state is the driving force behind the need for this expansion. A total of 694 South Georgia State College students have earned a spot on the 2018 Fall Academic Honors List, according to an announcement today by Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Robert Page. John is from Hattiesburg, Mississippi where he was raised on a small commercial beef cattle farm. As a youth he was involved in FFA, 4-H, Beta Club, and was an Eagle Scout. Two people were jailed on multiple drug and other charges New Year’s Eve following a contentious encounter with Coffee County drug agents, according to a post on the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. Around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, a Coffee County K-9 unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a window tint violation and requested an additional unit to assist. Coffee County drug agents arrested multiple people last Thursday during an investigation at a Douglas motel, along with another individual following a search at a residence near Pridgen. Around 8:30 p.m., Dec. 27, executed a search warrant at the Comfortel Suites, also known locally as the Fountain Inn.
