Mrs. Emily Minix Vickers, age 78 of Ambrose, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 18, 2018 at Pruitt Health-Fitzgerald in Fitzgerald following an extended illness. Mrs. Vickers was born November 24, 1939 to the late Albert Minix and the late Miriam Grantham Minix. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Derrell Vickers; brother, Johnny Minix; and sister, Corrine Brantley. Mrs. Minix was a homemaker. Mr. Roy Leston Wooten, age 79 of Douglas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 14, 2018 at Kindred Hospital of North Florida in Green Cove Springs, Fla., following an extended illness. Mr. Wooten was born January 23, 1939 to the late Claude Wooten and the late Vernie Cliett Wooten. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Allen Wooten; two brothers, William “Bill” Wooten and Marcus Wooten; and three sisters, Roxie Smith, Claudie Yawn and Shirley Dice. Maxine Minix, age 90, of Warner Robins, formerly of Douglas, passed away on Thursday November 22, 2018 at Warner Robins Rehabilitation Center in Warner Robins. She retired after 28 years with Warner Robins Air Force Base. Mrs. Minix was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Minix. Survivors include two sons, Jesse Homer Minix (wife Sandra) of Loganville and David Minix (wife Micki) of Byron; eight grandchildren, Dana Chandler, Terri Jacobson, Craig Minix, Rusty Minix, Kenny Minix, Charlie Minix, Jessica Minix and Angie Mandalay; and numerous great grandchildren. Citizens in Douglas and Coffee County are invited to start a season of giving by participating in the Coffee County Community Toy Drive. Public safety agencies, along with many local community agencies, are hosting a toy drive for boys and girls ages 12 and under. The toy drive has already begun with collection sites throughout Douglas. “We have approximately 500 youth in our community who are on toy lists with local agencies,” says Mayor Tony Paulk. “We need our community to support this community toy drive. The City of Douglas will be doing its part to make the holiday season special for residents of Georgia’s hospitals serving persons with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs. For 59 years, cities across Georgia have brought the joy of the holiday season to patients at Georgia’s regional behavioral health hospitals through the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade. The program, begun by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) in cooperation with Governor Ernest Vandiver and his wife Betty Vandiver, relies on citizen participation in each city to donate gifts for the patients, many of who would not receive gifts or be recognized…

The City of Douglas contracts with Waste Industries to provide trash and recycling pick up inside Douglas. Recently, the schedule has been inconsistent due to employee challenges, weather, and holidays. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the trash/recycling schedule’s lack of consistency and we are working with Waste Industries to resolve the issues with trash and recycling pick up within the City,” says City Manager Charles Davis. “We should have this resolved before the Thanksgiving Holidays.” Prior to Thursdays of each week, citizens should schedule pick up of brown/white goods by contacting the Public Works Department at 912-389-3450.…
