Francis Paul Keanon, Jr., age 76, of Fitzgerald, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Dorminey Medical Center, Fitzgerald. Mr. Kennon was born on November 22, 1942, the son of the late Francis Paul Keanon Sr. and Naomi Lois Roach Keanon. Mr. Keanon was a retired veteran of the United States Navy with 21 years of service, including serving during the Vietnam War. Trenton Rowell, age 79, of Brunswick, passed away on Sunday December 16, 2018 at Hospice of Golden Isles, Brunswick. Mr. Rowell was born on November 18, 1939 in Coffee County, the son of the late John Harvey Rowell and Mae Belle Thigpen Rowell. A fourth person pled guilty in federal court this week on charges stemming from a phone scam operation originating in Douglas in 2016. Vince Plumb pled guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in U.S. District Court in Waycross and is expected to be sentenced within the next month. The case stems from a 2016 investigation that began when Coffee County Sheriff Doyle Wooten received information that a scam operation was possibly being conducted at 904 North Madison Avenue in Douglas. On Thursday, December 13, during the regular monthly meeting of the Coffee County Board of Education, the school board unanimously voted to name the new performing arts center after long time Coffee High administrator Clayton Mathis. The auditorium of the center will be named after John M. Maley, who served as the band director from 1964-1985. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s Online Business Management program has been ranked fourth in the nation according to Great Value Colleges.net. The rankings were based on the college’s tuition and student-to-faculty ratio. Wiregrass’s online Associate of Business Management Degree is a 64-credit hour program. Students have a choice of five specialization options: general management, human resources management, service sector management, logistics, and hospitality operations. The student-to-faculty ratio is 13 to 1. All Fall graduates from the Pharmacy Technology program at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College have attempted and passed the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam making them Certified Pharmacy Technicians, or CPhTs. The Pharmacy Technology program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Accredited Council for Pharmacy Education. The program was recognized in 2018 as one of the top 10 Pharmacy Technician Programs in the State of Georgia, ranking fourth in the state.
