The City of Douglas Assistant Finance Director Heather Butler-Brockington has received the Municipal Revenue Administration Certificate from the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). Mrs. Brockington was presented her certificate on November 2 in Duluth. GMA’s Municipal Revenue Administration Certificate program is designed to strengthen the understanding of city managers, city clerks, finance officers, customer service staff, elected officials and other city employees on different municipal revenue sources and applicable laws of the administration and collection process. Satilla Regional Library System held its Pearson Children’s Halloween Party on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Pearson Public Library. There were arts and crafts to make including Halloween bookmarks, Halloween themed scratch art, and ghost making. During the weekend of November 3-4, Coffee County 4-H members traveled to Rock Eagle 4-H Center along with Atkinson, Quitman, and Irwin counties to participate in the Georgia 4-H Statewide Junior Conference. Participants included Abygail Harper and Glenn O’Steen as well as Savannah Cothern who attended as a Teen Instructor and Leader for the weekend. Keyshaun Street had 33 points, and two other players finished in double figures as the South Georgia State College Hawks cruised to a 109-41 win Saturday afternoon over Atlanta Sports Academy (ASA). ASA kept the game close as the teams approached the midway point of the first half. Leading 15-9, the Hawks (3-1) outscored ASA 40-12 to take a 55-21 lead into the locker room. Nov. 1 – After receiving information and complaints, the Douglas-Coffee Drug unit conducted an investigation at the Comfortel Inn, also known as the Fountain Inn, motel. During the investigation, agents came in contact with Ahmad Rashad Mayo, who was the subject of the investigation and was occupying one of the rooms at the motel. A search was conducted of Mayo’s room, and quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, illicit prescription tablets, packaging materials and cash were discovered. Mayo was placed under arrest at that time, attempted to flee on foot while in restraints, but was quickly apprehended. A further search of Mayo…

Chosen as semifinalists are: James Grobsmith (Barbering) Ware County, Nikki Hinson (Radiologic Technology) Lowndes County, Chris Rampley (Radiologic Technology) Lowndes County, and Joshua Velasquez (Air Conditioning) from Lowndes County. First graders presented Indian Creek’s annual Veterans Day program on Wednesday, November 7 in honor of all of the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This year students were also wowed by the presentations of the NJROTC from Coffee High School.
