The Coffee County Farm Bureau YF&R Junior Board is proud to announce their November Ag Spotlight student, Jack Lingenfelter. The purpose of the Ag Spotlight is to feature a member of the FFA or 4-H who has exemplified attributes such as leadership, determination, diligence and charity. Jack is the son of Nathan and Kellie Lingenfelter of Douglas. He is an 8th grade student at Coffee Middle School and currently serving as the Coffee Middle School FFA Vice President. It was an educational night for superheroes, princesses, goblins, and ghouls at ICE. On Tuesday, October 30, students got to participate in many science experiments and math activities at the annual Spooky Science and Math Madness Night. It was a spooky night of hands-on learning for all!

September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and students at ICE didn’t want to miss the opportunity to do their part. Throughout the month, the K-Kids, led by Mrs. Brittany Wooten and Mrs. Melissa LeFan, sold Cupcakes for a Cure. Each day some generous family and friends of ICE donated cupcakes which the K-Kids sold after lunch to raise money. Staff members also donated to the cause. On Friday, November 2, Mrs. Tamara Morgan, principal of ICE, presented the Coffee County Childhood Cancer Group with a check for $2,517.43. It is finally here! Cloverleaf District Project Achievement, or DPA as we like to call it, is this Saturday, November 10. Our staff has been very busy working with about 55 Cloverleaf 4-H members trying to help them get their speeches and posters ready for competition. Cloverleaf DPA is open to students in fourth through sixth grades. DPA is a 4-H competition where a student selects a project area, narrows down their subject, researches it, organizes their information, and writes a speech. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate a missing person. The family of 80-year-old Samuel Reed has not heard from him since around 7 a.m., Monday, Nov. 5, when he contacted them stating he was in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Reed’s family states he is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. Reed is described as a black male, approximately 6’2″, 200 lbs., with gray hair and brown eyes. He is possibly driving a 2019 white Jeep Cherokee with Georgia license plate CIQ4773. Anyone with information on Mr. Reed’s whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (912) 384-4227 or…

Mr. John Frederick “Jack” Meyers III, age 73 of Nicholls, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 1, 2018, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Meyers was born October 20, 1945 to the late John Frederick Meyers II and the late Norma Muffley Meyers. Mr. Meyers was a native of Alliance, Ohio. He had previously been a professor at Maysville Community College in Maysville, Ken., and he was currently teaching at South Georgia State College in Douglas. He was a member of Teen Court. Mr. Billy Lamar Clanton, age 76 of Valdosta, passed away late Wednesday night, October 31, 2018, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta following a short illness. Mr. Clanton was born December 1, 1941 to the late Marvin Clanton and the late Willene Whittle Clanton. Mr. Clanton was a native of Lakeland, Lanier County. He retired after a number of years working as a machinist for Dowling Bag. Mr. Clyde B. Vickers, age 86 of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away late Monday evening, October 29, 2018 at his daughter’s residence in Johnson City, following an extended illness. Mr. Vickers was born November 14, 1931 to the late Carlie Edward Vickers and the late Thelma Lucrecia Moore Vickers. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Grace Floyd Vickers. Mr. Vickers, a native of Mora in Coffee County, retired from Hobart Company as a food vending machinist. Deborah S. Carver, age 62, of Douglas, passed away on Friday November 2, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. Carver was born on February 5, 1956 in Savannah, the daughter to the late Julian Rollins and Nora Lee Medders Rollins. Mrs. Carver was owner/operator of Medical Billing Services and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. Carl Emmit Bishop, age 96, of Douglas, passed away on Wednesday October 31, 2018 at Lakeside Assisted Living Home. Mr. Bishop was born on April 1, 1922 in Emanuel County, Georgia, the son of the late Lott Bishop and Eunice Bishop. Born April 1, 1922 and died October 31, 2018. Carl Bishop lived a full life. He was raised in Summertown, around Twin City. He attended a one room school house and grew up on a farm where his father raised cattle.
