South Georgia State College head men’s basketball coach Cory Baldwin achieved a coaching milestone this week, defeating Denmark Tech 77-71 Tuesday night in Denmark, S.C., for his 250th career win. Baldwin has won 197 games in ten years on SGSC’s Waycross Campus. The remaining 53 wins were earned during his tenure at Truett-McConnell University. The City of Douglas and Transwaste are offering two junk drop-off days in December – Dec. 1 and Dec. 15 at the City Pole Yard located at Pearl Avenue from 8 a.m.-noon. A dumpster will be placed the City Pole Yard, located on Pearl Avenue, to offer Douglas residents a way to dispose of large, non-hazardous items and electronic items at no cost. The Coffee Middle School Spelling Bee was held on November 28, and all the participants did a fabulous job. The top three spellers were sixth grade students. After two rounds of interviews Nikki Hinson, a Radiologic Technology student, was named Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s 2019 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner. A family tragedy first sparked Nikki’s interest in the medical field. “My mom was involved in a head-on collision which resulted in breaking most of the bones in her body”, shared Nikki. “The event was also my first look into the world of medicine as I watched doctors and techs and all sort of equipment see inside my mother’s body to diagnose and treat her.” Nikki’s mother would eventually recover and Nikki married and became…

Mr. Lyle Gordon, member of the Kiwanis Club of Douglas spoke on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Flying Cowboy Restaurant. Mr. Gordon spoke about his month-long cross country travels along the Oregon Trail and back with his wife, Carol. The theme for the book fair was “Enchanted Forest”; there were multitudes of enticing books. The genres in the fair ranged from nature to horror.
