Dave Hughes has been named the Main Street Program Coordinator for the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce. This announcement comes following the recent transition of the Main Street Program from the City of Douglas. During the transfer of responsibilities, Mr. Hughes will continue to collaborate with Ms. Georgia Henderson to provide continuity of services for Main Street Program activities. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and Ace Electric, Inc. have partnered together once again. At the college’s advisory committee meeting, Ace Electric, Inc. company founders Tom and Bobby Stalvey presented the college with a check for $25,000. Both company founders are Valdosta Technical Institute alumni. The donation will support the newly created Commercial Electrical Construction Technology classroom. In addition to their financial contribution to Wiregrass, Ace Electric is committing to offering summer internships, work-based learning, job shadowing and apprenticeship program opportunities to high school students interested in pursuing a career in the commercial electrical construction field. The City of Douglas and Transwaste are offering two junk drop-off days in November – Nov. 3 and Nov. 17 at the City Pole Yard located at Pearl Avenue from 8 a.m.-noon. A dumpster will be placed the City Pole Yard, located on Pearl Avenue, to offer Douglas residents a way to dispose of large, non-hazardous items and electronic items at no cost. Dear Editor, I voted Yes for ESPLOST in Coffee County. I believe that the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales tax makes sense. This is not an additional tax; it is simply a vote to continue the current ESPLOST in Coffee County.
