On Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10 am, the Douglas Fire Department will host Douglas’ first Firefighters Fun Walk. Beginning at Fire Station #1 (Gordon Street), firemen will be marching down South Peterson Avenue to Fire Station #3 (beside Williams Institutional Foods) to raise awareness and funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Coffee County Region. Firemen will be dressed in full gear, which weighs approximately 65lbs. Citizens are encouraged to come out support the Douglas Fire Department as they raise funds for our local community Boys and Girls Club.

Coffee Middle School is a huge supporter of childhood cancer awareness and the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and CMS has been busy gathering donations. September 28 was a fun Friday of raising money to finish out the month. Students enjoyed soccer, basketball, face painting, music, snacks, and being together with one goal in mind –fighting childhood cancer. CMS appreciates Brooks Waldron for spending the day and sharing his music with the students. Congratulations to Clusters 6C, 7D, and 8A for winning performances at the basketball tournaments. Ausie Morris “Buddy” Vaughn, age 88, passed away on Wednesday September 26, 2018, at Vista Park following an extended illness. Mr. Vaughn was born on July 22, 1930 in Coffee County, the son of the late Ausie Vaughn and Mary Elizabeth Tarrant Vaughn.
