The City of Douglas and Transwaste are offering two junk drop-off days in November – Nov. 3 and Nov. 17 at the City Pole Yard located at Pearl Avenue from 8 a.m.-noon. A dumpster will be placed the City Pole Yard, located on Pearl Avenue, to offer Douglas residents a way to dispose of large, non-hazardous items and electronic items at no cost. No one will be available to help unload items. The City is not responsible for any damages that occur during unloading. NO CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL/DEBRIS or business/commercial dumping will be allowed. Dear Editor, I voted Yes for ESPLOST in Coffee County. I believe that the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales tax makes sense. This is not an additional tax; it is simply a vote to continue the current ESPLOST in Coffee County. As a parent, I want my children to have the tools necessary to receive a quality education and ESPLOST ensures that. Eleven people have been indicted on federal charges for importing and trafficking methamphetamine throughout southeast Georgia. The 17-count, 20-page indictment returned by a federal grand jury charges the defendants in a longstanding conspiracy to import and distribute methamphetamine, a deadly and highly addictive stimulant, in Laurens, Ware, Telfair, Dodge, Bacon and Coffee counties, said Southern District United States Attorney Bobby L. Christine. Multiple firearms were seized during the operation, and several of the defendants are charged with possession of a firearm while trafficking drugs. Sunday shortly before 8 p.m., officers from multiple agencies in Coffee County responded to a shooting at Rockin’ Roll Bowlin’, 1300 Southeast Bowens Mill Road. In addition to the Douglas Police Department, officers from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol also responded. On arrival, officers found multiple vehicles in the parking lot that had been struck by gunfire. Officers checked the location, inside and out, and found no persons with any injuries related to this incident. Mrs. Mary Frances Zanders Davis, age 73 of West Green, passed away Thursday night, October 25, 2018 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Davis was born June 24, 1945 to the late Herb Zanders and the late Eliza Nipper Zanders. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Wayne Zanders and Bradford Zanders, and a sister, Glenda Faye Hartley. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker.
