Rebecca Jean Wright Josey, age 77, of Douglas, passed away on Sunday September 23, 2018 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Josey was born on March 2, 1941 in Denton, the daughter of the late George Orville Wright and Lou Annie Lott Wright. She was a retired English and History teacher, having worked 30 years with the Atkinson County School System, Coffee County School System and South Georgia State College. District Attorney George E. Barnhill is pleased to announce that Marilyn P. Bennett has joined his team of assistant district attorneys for the Waycross Judicial Circuit. Marilyn grew up in Mississippi and is a December 2008 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law. After graduation, she married Jim Bennett of Blackshear and they moved to Florida. She began her prosecution career with the Florida State Attorney’s Office. In 2011, she and Jim relocated to their family farm in Pierce County. The City of Douglas and Douglas Coffee County Parks & Recreation (DCCPRD) are looking for volunteers to help keep our city parks clean. The Adopt-A-Park program has been in effect for several years. There are approximately 12 parks located in the city that are available for adoption. The purpose of the program is to assist with upkeep of city parks for all who visit. A collaborative effort between Coffee County drug agents and the Mid South Drug Task Force resulted in the arrest of a Coffee County man on drug distribution charges Wednesday. The Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit was contacted by agents with the Mid South Drug Task Force in Tifton, who stated they were in possession of a package mailed from Douglas which contained 108 tablets of the prescription painkiller hydrocodone, a Schedule II controlled substance. Douglas-Coffee drug agents retrieved the package and, following an investigation, arrested 57-year-old Bernard Tanner Paulk at his residence off Cobblestone Road. The Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (DMYC) held its monthly meeting recently for the 2018 – 2019 school year. Items on the agenda included discussion about the social media pages for the Youth Council, recognition of youth in the community, and recognition of the Citizens Christian Academy’s athletics department. Mrs. Linda Myers Meeler, age 70 of Columbus, formerly of Douglas, passed away early Saturday morning, September 22, 2018 at Columbus Hospice in Columbus following a short illness. She was born October 30, 1947 to the late Southern Edward Myers and the late Minerva Johns Myers.
