South Georgia State College students Allison Johnson of Pearson and Katelyn Page of Douglas were named to the All-Georgia Academic Team, a program recognizing the scholarly achievements of students enrolled in two-year programs at Georgia’s colleges and universities. A recognition luncheon was held on March 27, 2019, in their honor in Atlanta at the Sloppy Floyd Building Empire Room. Mrs. Bennett’s peers selected her to receive this honor in recognition of her outstanding service to Eastside Elementary School and her profession. After completing her Early Childhood Education degree through Valdosta State University, she began working towards her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education through Albany State University. Ted and his wife, Heather Deems Wilkes were joined by their son, Austin, who also works at the agency. Coffee Middle School would like to recognize and commend the following 8th grade students who earned perfect attendance in the 8th Grade CMS After School Program. These students attended all 20 sessions of the program which offered support in the areas of ELA and Math. The program met on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from mid-January to the end of March. On Wednesday, March 20, a miracle happened on the campus of Westside Elementary School. One of their students, Luis Villalon-Gomez was with Dr. Dana Tyre, a Speech Pathologist on the campus, when he fell out of his chair onto the floor. Mr. Kyle Aubrey Murray, age 52 of Douglas, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 at his residence following a short illness. Mr. Murray was born June 2, 1966 to the late Clinton Murray and the late Ruby Inez Rentz Murray. Mr. Murray was a self-employed farmer. Mrs. Jane Frances Tanner Vincent, age 82 of Axson, passed away Wednesday morning, March 27, 2019 at Baptist Village in Waycross following an extended illness. Mrs. Vincent was born October 10, 1936 to the late Thomas Jonathan Tanner and the late Beadie Guthrie Tanner.
