In recognition of Fire Prevention Week and West Green Elementary’s Community Helpers theme, members of Fire Station 6 paid a visit to West Green Elementary Pre-K on Oct. 3. With a big, red fire truck, firefighters educated the children about the importance of fire safety. They got an up-close-and-personal look at the fire truck and had the opportunity to spray the fire hose. Gentry Colson, Called to Care Coffee County Director, was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Flying Cowboy Restaurant. Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, the Alma Police Department asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation into the death of Sabron Markez Mosby. After an extensive investigation, the GBI Douglas Regional office, Alma Police Department, and the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office obtained information that led to the arrest of the following subjects in connection with Mosby’s death. Ms. Patricia Ann Hester Arnold, age 56 of Douglas, passed away Sunday morning, October 14, 2018 at her residence following a short illness. Ms. Arnold was born December 19, 1961 to the late Buster Hester and the late Lera Mixon Hester Deen. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Johnny Hester, Billy “Squeeky” Hester, Freeman Hester and Richard Hester and a brother-in-law, Elisha Anderson. Betty P. Mullis, age 81, of Douglas, passed away on Tuesday October 16, 2018 at Twins Oaks Convalescent Center, Alma. Mrs. Mullis was born on November 21, 1936 in Mississippi, the daughter of the late Delbert Pharr and Edna Waddell Pharr. The Black Light Extravaganza is coming to Douglas. It will be held at First Baptist Church , 124 N. Gaskin Ave., on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. This popular black light presentation will be presented by First Baptist Church Black Light Ministry from Alma. All ages enjoy this presentation from children to adults. It features many songs with drama, flags, dowel rods, streamers, signs, lights, human size very unique puppets and more. Students Coffee Middle School and members of Coffee Middle Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) worked hard to raise $1,100 for the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County the month of September. Students went throughout the school during morning homeroom as well as during the lunch rushes in the cafeteria to ask for donations towards a chance to win a gift basket valued over $300. The basket included a variety of candy, gift cards and $250. The winner of the gift basket was Lance Wood, 7th grader and newest member of Coffee Middle FBLA.
