The Art Resources Transfer, Inc. in New York recently enhanced the CMS Media Center collection by donating a variety of art titles through the Distribution to Underserved Communities Library Program (D.U.C.). D.U.C. distributes books on contemporary art and culture to public schools, libraries, prisons, and alternative education centers nationwide, free of charge. D.U.C. books create access to the arts and literacy these institutions could not otherwise afford to acquire. Recently the George Washington Carver Freshman Campus (GWCFC) Journalism class took a field trip to Broadcast South to learn more about different job opportunities and different skills in the radio business. As they were there, they did just that by having hands-on experience to different equipment and many different devices to show and give them many different skills to what it would be like having that job in the radio industry. Josephine C. Adams, age 74, of Broxton, passed away on Monday October 15, 2018 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Adams was born on February 26, 1944 in Coffee County, the daughter of the late Leland Carter and Eudine Sellers Carter. She worked with the Coffee County School System as a custodian for over 33 years and was member of Broxton Baptist Church. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Myers, daughter-in-law, Debbie Myers and granddaughter, Christine Myers. Darren “Wood” White, age 54, of Douglas, passed away on Monday October 15, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. White was born on September 18, 1964 in McRae, the son of Georgia Alice Seabolt White and the late Cleveland Barry White. Coffee County Schools is hoping to educate parents about healthy school choices and encourage them to take advantage of convenient and well-balanced school lunches as part of National School Lunch Week celebrations, October 15-19, 2018. The National School Lunch Week (NSLW) theme, “School Lunch – Lots 2 Love,” reminds school communities and parents about the many nutritious choices and continued improvements to school lunch menus. City of Douglas Public Works Department and ESG Operations employees use state of the art machinery to clear drainage areas after Hurricane Michael stormed through Douglas. The Menzi Muck, or spider, helps to clean out drainage areas that workers and most equipment cannot reach by clearing these hard to drain areas of storm debris to help stop flooding issues in the future.
Most people associate the Lions Club’s Big Buck Contest as a one-day event that takes place on the opening day of deer season. In reality, the Big Buck Contest is an ongoing project that plays out throughout the entire year. Funds raised during the contest are used all year to support a number of charities, both local and outside of Coffee County.
