Southern Gold Gymnastics gymnasts were recognized by Mayor Tony Paulk and the City Commission at the Commission meeting on Thursday, July 12, 2018. The gymnasts represented Douglas and Coffee County during their trip to the AAU Gymnastic National Championship in Tampa, Florida. SGG gymnasts placed and won several categories at Nationals. The competition gymnastic team at Southern Gold Gymnastics practices over eight hours a week all year preparing for the competition. Congratulations to these remarkable young ladies and coach!

At the City Commission meeting on Thursday, July 12, 2018, Mayor Tony Paulk and the City Commission recognized the Coffee County Weightlifting team for qualifying and participating in Olympic Weightlifting Nationals. The weightlifting team represented Douglas and Coffee County at the National Youth Weightlifting Championship in Grand Rapids, Michigan in June 2018. Congratulations to these outstanding young men.

John Hereford, president of Miles-Odum Funeral Home in Waycross, recently presented a contribution on behalf of the company to the James M. Dye Foundation on South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) Waycross Campus. Accepting the contribution was Foundation Treasurer Cindy Sowell while Miles-Odum Secretary and Treasurer Jonathan Roundtree attended the presentation. Miles-Odum has been a consistent supporter of the Foundation’s work for many years. The late Robert Odum, co-founder of the funeral home, served as Foundation President from 1983-1984. The James M.
