Two Wiregrass employees were recently honored for their dedication, hard work and leadership skills by the faculty and staff of the college. Wiregrass employees annually nominate a staff member and a supervisor for their exemplary performance on the job. The nominations are narrowed down by a committee and the finalists are interviewed by a panel of judges to decide who will be honored. APD arrested Carl Jerome White, 57 of Alma, for false report of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. At 6:58 a.m. Monday morning, July 30, APD was dispatched to the Bacon County Hospital regarding a patient with a gunshot wound. White informed officers he had been shot at his home on Taylor Rd. Officers quickly became suspicious of the shooting. White later confessed he shot himself in the leg to avoid appearing in court on a separate criminal offense. First Congregational Christian Church (FCCC) has been a supporter of Camp 151 for many years. Each year at Vacation Bible School the children bring an offering to be given to Camp 151 at the annual fish fry provided by FCCC for the volunteers. This year the adults got involved as well, and the offering grew beyond anyone’s expectations to over $3000. Camp 151 is a summer camp whose ministry is to teach young people how to serve others using home repair as its platform. Home is a place that often shapes who we are and serves as the driving force of who we strive to become. Home is Broxton, Georgia for Dr. Justin Peterson. It was where he was raised and lived his entire life prior to leaving for college in 2006. Luckily for Coffee County, 12 years later, he has returned home, with a beautiful family and an impressive medical degree. Mr. Leon Roger McClelland, age 78 of Douglas, passed away Monday afternoon, July 23, 2018, at The Landings of Douglas following an extended illness. Mr. McClelland was born August 29, 1939, to the late Leonard A. McClelland and the late Virginia Garbett McClelland. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jo O’Steen McClelland and a son, Anthony M. McClelland.
