Mr. James Gehu Stodghill, age 73 of Douglas, GA passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 5, 2018 at St. Josephs/Chandler Hospital in Savannah following a short illness. Mr. Stodghill was born March 6, 1945 to the late James Crowder Stodghill and the late Clyde Daniels Stodghill. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by: a step-son, Christopher Stevens; and a step-grandson, Alexander Stevens. The City of Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant has reported a major spill of wastewater that occurred into an unnamed tributary of the Seventeen Mile River at the effluent outfall. The spill date was from 5/30/2018 at 7 a.m. until 5/31/2018 7 a.m. The spill occurred at the effluent outfall of the WWTP at 622 Iron Road Douglas, GA 31533. Approximately 6.2 million gallons were reported. As a precaution, it is recommended that the public has no contact with the affected stream water until after 6/13/2018. Officials with the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) arrested four individuals on various charges following a surveillance operation at a Douglas residence earlier this week. Agents were conducting the operation near a home on E. Jackson St., Douglas, Ga., Monday, June 4, 2018, as part of an ongoing investigation. Officers observed a white male, identified as 26-year-old David Anthony Salyers, exit the home and attempted to make contact with him as a person of interest in a theft case. The Douglas-Coffee Heat Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding last Thursday, May 31, 2018, on Ga. 206 Connector at U.S. Hwy. 221 North, Douglas, Ga. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, members of Douglas Elks Lodge #1286 and their Auxiliary hosted a spaghetti dinner for members of two local charities. Each charity was also given a $750 check, using money from a $1,500 Elks National Foundation Anniversary Grant. The charities chosen were the Boys & Girls Club of Coffee County Region and The Child Advocacy Center of Coffee County. As they always do, the ladies of the auxiliary outdid themselves with the food!
