During a recent theme study about Living Creatures, the Pre-K students at Eastside Elementary learned about the needs of living creatures. The highlight of the theme study was learning about insects. Many books about various insects in our world were read as well as different activities exploring insects were implemented into the science domain. As one of the culminating activities the students enjoyed making the traditional “Ants on a Log” for their afternoon snack. The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to Coffee Regional Medical Center (CRMC) Main Laboratory, Douglas, Georgia based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of CAP’s Accreditation Programs. GRPA is the governing body for most recreation level sports programs in Georgia and DCCPRD follows the guidelines set forth by the GRPA for Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation sports programs. Marcia Pace Lindstrom, the Great Niece of Mr. John Marshall Ashley, visited the Ashley Slater House (Douglas Visitor Information Center), on Friday, April 13, 2018 to see the home her Great Uncle built for his wife, Ada Clements Ashley. While visiting, the family also visited several other places of interests in Douglas including the Ashley mausoleum at the Douglas Cemetery and Heritage Station Museum. The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Authority have selected John A. Henry, an experienced economic development professional, as the new president and chief executive officer of the two organizations. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College announces operational hours for summer semester 2018. Beginning May 21 until July 26 all Wiregrass campuses will be open on Monday through Thursday and closed on Friday. Most Wiregrass offices will operate on a Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. schedule with the campuses open until evening classes completed. Plans are underway for Douglas and Coffee County to form a teen court to help deter teens with minor offenses from committing more damaging offenses and have a second chance to better themselves while participating in a Teen Court program. Douglas officials have met with the other Teen Court representatives from around the state and have formed Douglas’ Teen Court in a similar structure based on programs that have been successful. Volunteers are also being sought to help fill some of the duties related to the Teen Court process and assistance with the mentoring program for defendants. Applications must be…
