Clinton (Lyn) Lynwood Lott, III passed away on March 22, 2018, at Shepherd Center in Atlanta following complications from surgery at Emory University Hospital to remove a benign brain tumor. Mr. Lott was born on April 9, 1950 in Douglas, Georgia the son of the late Clinton Lynwood Lott II and Lorraine Vickers Lott. The Broxton Police Department has been busy over the last week. Arrests include several for a variety of alleged drug and weapons violations, shoplifting, bench warrants, and the like: On March 21, an officer observed Corey Dent of Broxton riding in the middle of the road at night with no headlight. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College had an excellent showing at the SkillsUSA State Championship in Atlanta this past weekend. The college brought back 15 gold, 11 silver and seven bronze medals in the skills competition among other colleges. The college medaled in 21 out of 31 contests for those with Wiregrass competitors. Among the gold medal count is the Chapter of Distinction Gold level award. Wiregrass was one of two colleges in the state recognized at this level which also earned them the privilege of being submitted for consideration of the National Chapter of Excellence award to be announced in June…

On Saturday, March 24, 2018, Coffee Regional Medical Center took the lead in the area of Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Readiness by hosting the Medical Association of Georgia’s first physician-led Medical Reserve Corp, the state’s first unit of volunteer physicians who are trained to respond to declared emergencies in Georgia. Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jim Barber along with CRMC staff, coordinated the training for the approximate 15 local physicians as well as many others . Pattie Parker (Douglas Main Street Coordinator) held a Main Street merchant meeting on March 13, 2018. The quarterly meeting allows merchants to meet and share ideas. Discussion was held about forming a Merchant’s Association as a way for the Main Street merchants to come together and support each other with events that would draw people to downtown Douglas. The City of Douglas is currently reviewing its policy regarding Food Trucks. While the policy is under review, the City is implementing a temporary pilot program for mobile food service in the Main Street district or downtown district.
