South Georgia State College (SGSC) stole the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Tallahassee Community College (TCC) on Saturday. The game was tied at three with the Hawks battling in the top of the eleventh inning when Blake Brito’s sacrifice fly scored one run. Jake Bryan led the hitting for the Hawks with two hits in four at bats. Cole Escher, KC Brown, Jacob Giles and Blake Brito each contributed one hit during the game. What a wonderful winter it has been with the falling of real snow in Coffee County! Even though the students in Coffee County School System were still on Christmas break when they snow arrived, the Pre-K students at Eastside Elementary School had a second “Snow Fall” upon arrival back to school in their classroom. “Snow” was piled up on top of their small group work tables ready to be explored. By Kevin Tatum JUNIOR/SENIOR PROJECT ACHIEVEMENT Coffee County Junior and Senior 4-H members will travel to Rock Eagle 4-H Center for the weekend of February 9-11 to compete in District Project Achievement. Thirty-five students completed portfolios this year. This portfolio accounts for 40-50 percent of their total DPA score. The Basic Life Support (BLS) course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of AED. Mr. Clyde Lamar Harper, 81 of Douglas, GA., passed away on January 26, 2018 in Douglas, GA., surrounded by his loving family, close friends, and members of his church family. Mrs. Mildred Udeen Thomas, age 92, of Douglas, GA passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at her home, Vista Park. Mrs. Thomas was born November 25, 1925, in Coffee County to the late Samuel Jackson Evans and Idell Teston Evans Cato. Mrs. Thomas entered the workforce as a seamstress at the hosiery mill in Douglas.
