The South Georgia State College swim teams traveled to Columbus last weekend to participate in the first annual Sun Coast Conference Swim Meet. SGSC’s women placed third in the three-day long event, while the men finished fourth. The new swimming conference is comprised of seven teams, with South Georgia State being the only team in the junior college division. South Georgia State College (SGSC) will be participating in the Teacher Job Fair on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at Okefenokee RESA located at 1450 North Augusta Avenue in Waycross, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. SGSC will join personnel from Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Pierce and Ware school systems as well as Harrell Learning Center to conduct informal interviews. SGSC is looking for part-time instructors to teach in a variety of disciplines, including economics, English, history, political science, mathematics, environmental sciences, anatomy and physiology, psychology and sociology. On Feb. 8-9, 2018, the City of Douglas Public Information Department hosted the Magnolia Midlands Travel Association (MMTA) Annual Planning Retreat. Coffee County Family Connection, which has been a part of Coffee County Schools for over 25 years, hosted its second annual Celebrity Dinner on Saturday Feb. 3, 2018, at the Coffee High School Cafetorium. Family Connection, which assists children and families in the school district as well as the community, is funded annually through various grants. Vining entered Powerade’s “Power Your School” essay contest and in his essay he described what GWCFC’s athletic department could use to increase student involvement. In this essay contest, the Powerade company gave each winning essay a $2,000 check. GWCFC also received some Powerade pep rally supplies, such as t-shirts and fans. The South Georgia State College Hawks took care of business Saturday afternoon and now find themselves all alone in second place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association standings. Tracy Hector had 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists to pace the Hawks (18-6, 7-3) to an 83-69 win over the Andrew College Tigers during Homecoming weekend on SGSC’s Douglas Campus.
