Mrs. Pauline Vivian King, age 77, of Douglas, GA passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Candler Hospital. Mrs. King was born on April 8, 1940, in Douglas, Georgia to the late Paul Yarberry and Ella Carver Yarberry. Ladye was born October 3rd, 1924 in her hometown of Memphis Tennessee and remained there throughout her childhood. In 1977, she and her husband, James Alexander Anderson, retired to Tavares, Florida where she lived for many years until her husband passed away from cancer in December of 1993. Ladye spent the rest of her years with her two daughters, Janet Lynn Anderson in Geneva, Florida and Connie Jo Morris in Douglas, Georgia. Ladye was preceded in death by: her father, William R. The South Georgia State College Hawks utilized another explosive second half Friday afternoon to win their third consecutive game by beating the Summer Hill Post Graduate Blue Devils 94-83. Things started slowly for the Hawks (11-3) in the first half as the Blue Devils jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first five minutes. Friday, Dec. 29, evening just before 9:30 p.m., the Alma Police Department, and the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a robbery at Pizza Hut on S. Pierce St; a small amount of cash was taken. Assistance from a Ware State Prison K-9 team and evidence recovered within the area led to the arrest of Stephen E. Evans, 58 of Indianapolis, Indiana. Evans was staying at a local motel while working for a local company. Evans was arrested for possession of cocaine and robbery. APD continues to urge businesses to invest in a quality surveillance system.
The City of Douglas and Transwaste are offering residential Junk Drop-Off Days, once a month, in 2018 to help citizens get rid of the excess trash. The upcoming date will be Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at the City Pole Yard located at Pearl Avenue from 8 a.m.-Noon. Sunday morning, Dec. 31, the Alma Police Department responded to the Bacon County Hospital following an allegation of inappropriate behavior enacted by a hospital employee against a Twin Oaks Nursing Home resident. Larry Thomas, 61 of Alma, was arrested for simple battery. Later in the evening on New Year’s Eve, APD’s Crime Suppression Unit responded to a residence on 4th St regarding a person trying to unwantedly enter a residence. Citizens in Douglas and Coffee County helped spread joy to children in the community by raising over an estimated of $8,000 and donating hundreds of toys for the Community Toy Drive.
