Mrs. Mary Davis Fussell, age 91 of Ambrose, GA passed away late Monday evening, December 25, 2017 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Fussell was born August 3, 1926 to the late Roy Davis, Sr. and the late Vida Lee Ray Fussell. Saturday evening, Dec. 23, following the vehicle pursuit the Alma Police Department was involved in, APD arrested Patrick Lee Newsome, 35 of Alma, for possession of cocaine. Newsome was already serving a state-probated sentence on two unrelated charges.

Mrs. Julie Macomber Vickers, President of the Douglas Kiwanis Club delivered 75 teddy bears on behalf of the Douglas Kiwanis Club for the K-Bears for Christmas Kids Project to Coffee County Family and Children Services on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017. These bears will go to foster children in Coffee and Atkinson counties for Christmas.

Saturday evening, Dec. 23, the Alma Police Department arrested Saurod Alonzo Batton, 24 of Alma, following a vehicle pursuit. Batton is facing numerous traffic charges as well as drug charges.

Tuesday, Dec. 19, the Alma Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit arrested Dylan Austin Walker, 21 of Alma, for felony purchase of marijuana. Walker’s arrest resulted from detectives observing Walker engaged in a hand-to-hand interaction with an unknown party who fled upon the sight of law enforcement. Wednesday, Dec. 20, APD detectives arrested Willie Hannah, 24 of Alma, for cruelty to children – 2nd degree. Hannah’s arrest followed an allegation of child abuse.
