Dr. Brett Mizell of Southern Chiropractic of Douglas was the featured speaker at the December Power Lunch of the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Mizell shared an informative program regarding the latest technology and techniques now available in chiropractic treatment. On Dec. 6, 2017 Senator Tyler Harper came and spoke to FBLA members about how he got started in politics and also some about leadership. Senator Harper told the members how proud he was that they decided to join a CTAE organization, though academics are very important so are after school activities because it helps build leadership, teamwork and many other needed qualities. South Georgia State College’s Residence Life and Housing Coordinator Sandra Adams was awarded with the Gold medal distinction and named Outstanding Individual of the Year at the University System of Georgia Chancellor’s Service Excellence Awards on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The award was presented during a ceremony in the Champion’s Club at the Georgia State Stadium in Atlanta. High School students enrolled in Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s Dual Enrollment program participated in the first Annual South Georgia & Southwest Georgia Skills Challenge. This was a skills competition that brought in 19 area schools and 150 student competitors. The event was held at the Sunbelt Expo in Moultrie with sponsors that included AGC Georgia, JCI Contractors, and Tulsa Welding School. Students competed in areas of masonry, plumbing, electrical and construction. The welding event was set up and run by Tulsa Welding School. Mr. Tidwell Carter, Sr. age 75 of Douglas, GA, passed away late Monday night, December 4, 2017, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Mr. Carter was born March 11, 1942 to the late Kermit Carter and the late Gladys Westberry Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Eugene Carter, Steve Carter and Quitman Carter. Mr. Carter was the founder and owner of the original Carter’s Fried Chicken in Douglas and throughout South Georgia. Mrs. Debra Ann Amerson, age 61, of Douglas, GA passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Amerson was born on September 5, 1956, in Douglas, Georgia to Imogene Nipper Zanders. Survivors include: her husband, Harris Amerson of Douglas, GA; son, Michael and wife Terri Nipper of Baxley, GA; grandchildren: Ashley Nipper, Chandler Nipper, Skyler Peterson and Nikki Nipper; great-granddaughters: Addison Nipper, Mallorie O’Berry, Ainsleigh O’Berry; great-grandson, Nathan Nipper; five sisters; one brother; three step-sisters; and one step-brother. Mr. James Howard Johnson went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2017 at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA. Howard was born in Alma, Georgia on May 6, 1944. He was the son of the late James Howard Johnson, Sr. and Grace Mattox Johnson. He grew up in the Forks of the Hurricane, Pierce County, Georgia. He graduated from Blackshear High School in 1962. Mr. Ellis Eugene Crews, age 65, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017, in Savannah, Ga. Mr. Crews was born on January 24, 1952, in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Ellis Crews and Willie Mae Tarrence Crews. Survivors include: his daughter, Jennifer and husband Francisco Diliegros of Douglas, Ga.; sisters: Laverne Stevens, Eleanor and husband Clarence Wright; daughter-in-law, Heather Crews; and grandchildren: HN Daniel Diliegros, Dayla Diliegros, Cody Crews and Carsyn Crews.
