Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, a W/M described as 6’ tall and 250 +/- lbs. with dark hair and a scruffy beard was observed removing four tires and wheels from a storage unit on Douglas St. The unknown W/M placed the tires and wheels into the bed of a red Chevrolet or GMC extended cab pickup truck with a silver stripe across the bottom and a black bull-bar bumper. Dr. Shawn Utley of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, was recently awarded the Visionary Leadership Award at the National Navigate Summit Awards Dinner hosted by the Education Advisory Board (EAB). Utley is the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs for Wiregrass Tech. The national award was presented in Washington, D.C. at the 2017 awards ceremony. Navigate is an educational software program that provides an online student portal used to help “navigate” the student from the initial application to college through to graduation. Dr. Morris Leis, superintendent of Coffee County schools, was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. He spoke about developing a Strategic Plan for Coffee County schools for the years 2018-2023 and he covered the positive educational accomplishments and the numerous facility improvements that were made over the last five years.
