Monday morning, August 28, the Alma Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding through a school zone at twice the posted speed limit on GA HWY 32 E in front of the Bacon County Elementary School. The driver of the vehicle later identified as Hunter Taylor, 20 of Alma, led officers on a high-speed chase onto Bennett Still Hwy. Officers were able to bring the vehicle to a stop near Big Creek Church Rd, but Hunter fled into a wooded area. South Georgia State College (SGSC) President Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers recently announced that SGSC led University System of Georgia (USG) institutions with the largest percentage growth in enrollment for the summer 2017 semester. According to a USG report released earlier this month, SGSC’s summer enrollment was 12.8 percent higher than 2016’s summer enrollment numbers. A 20-year-old Douglas man faces domestic violence and other charges after assaulting a 19-year-old female victim. Emanuel Aguirre Rojo was jailed after the victim reported to Coffee County deputies that he had struck her multiple times around the head and shoulders while she was driving down a local roadway. The victim added their two-year-old child was present in the backseat of the vehicle when the assault occurred. Deputies observed multiple bruises on the victim, along with swelling and lacerations to one of her eyes. Rojo was located at a local manufacturing industry shortly after the report was made.
