Coffee High School Orientation is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday July 31 and August 1. Students are requested to arrive at the assigned times. Students should come prepared to pay any fines before receiving their 2017-18 school schedules. Ms. Laverne Spivey Wright Mercer Smith, age 82, of Douglas, GA passed away Saturday morning, June 10, 2017 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, following a brief illness. Ms. Smith was born October 15, 1934 to the late Jerry Spivey and the late Grace Whitley Spivey. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her three husbands, John Wright, Dave Mercer and Aldine Smith; brother, James Spivey and step-son, Carl David Mercer. Mr. James David Sayer, age 72, of Ambrose passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Tift Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Sayer was born October 10, 1944, in Douglas to Rev. Jimmie Sayer and the late Dorothy Harper Sayer of Ambrose. He was a graduate of Broxton High School and received the first agriculture scholarship awarded by The Farmers Bank. He was born July 24, 1930 to the late Homer Hutcheson and the late Blonnie Taylor Hutcheson. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Delores Handegaard Hutcheson and brothers Jeff M. Hutcheson and Cecil Hutcheson. He loved and enjoyed being with his family.
