Coffee Middle School FCCLA spent the weekend in Athens at our State Leadership Conference and competition. Even though CMS had fewer students compete this year, they did great! Sixth grader Adlyn Eldridge competed in Career Investigation Junior Category (6th through 9th grade) and placed 4th out of 18 earning a silver medal. Addie Grace Parker and Emma Wilkerson placed 1st in Illustrated Talk Junior Event, competing against others in 6th through 9th grades—again, one of the toughest events!! Premium Peanut announces plans to expand into the peanut oil market. Currently, the operation located on Barrington Road in Douglas, Georgia is the single-largest peanut shelling facility in the world, and began operations in January of 2016. The onsite expansion will include an investment of approximately $14 million to add a filtered crude peanut oil facility. The new operation will have the capacity to produce over 3 million gallons of peanut oil per year, and is planned to commence operations in early 2018. A domestic violence suspect faces aggravated assault and other charges after leading Coffee County deputies on a vehicle and foot pursuit Thursday night. Deputies responded to a report of an aggravated assault in progress at a residence off Miller Road just prior to 9 p.m. The female victim stated the offender, 33-year-old Robert John Martin, had punched her in the head several times and choked her. A Coffee County woman has been charged with drug trafficking following a multi-agency investigation that led to the discovery of approximately four pounds of methamphetamine. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (HSI) informed the Douglas Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU), along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Southeast Regional Drug Enforcement Office (SRDEO), last week that they had intercepted information and evidence indicating several pounds of methamphetamine were being shipped to Coffee County from the West Coast. Coffee County sheriff’s authorities have arrested a 38-year-old Douglas man believed to be responsible for burglarizing a residence earlier this week in the Green Acres community. Deputies responded to a home on Greenfield Circle Monday, March 13, in reference to a burglary. The victim stated she had returned home that evening and discovered several televisions and other items with an estimated total value of over $1,000 were missing.
