State 4-H/FFA Livestock Shows Coffee County 4-H members traveled to Perry to compete in the state livestock shows the week of February 22-26. This week of shows included market hog, steer, heifer, dairy heifers, breeding does, and breeding ewes. Coffee County 4-H members who participated in the State Heifer Show included: Ambrose: Kramer Day; Junior 4-H Club: Taylor Medders and Callie Willis. Kramer placed first, Taylor placed third, and Callie placed eighth in their respective classes. While Superintendent Butch Mosely has been the face of the system the past four years, Willis has been the one pulling the levers to keep the DCSS between the white lines. Westside Elementary held their annual My Princess and Me Dance on February 24, 2017. Princesses in grades Pre-K through 5th were escorted by their special Prince to share in an enchanted, glamourous evening. Princesses were pampered in the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique where they had their hair and make-up done just right. At the Glamour Nail Salon, they had their nails manicured and painted by Miss Elisabeth Gowen and Miss Alexis Davis. The SGSC Hawks baseball team made a road trip to play Thomas University JV and left with two strong wins, clinching the first game 16-3. They continued their impressive showing by securing the second game with a score of 11-2. In game one, the Hawks captured the lead early by scoring two runs in the first inning, and they never looked back. SGSC scored five additional runs in the third inning and added five more in the fifth and four in the sixth. When the dust had settled, the Hawks had a total of seventeen hits in the game. Zack…

Students throughout Eastside Elementary School enjoyed celebrating the memory of Dr. Seuss on his birthday March 2. Dr. Seuss’ contribution to early childhood literature was tremendous, and many of the books he wrote and illustrated are still being implemented into early childhood Curriculum. What a treasure Dr. Seuss’ literature has been for many decades! Stanford Day was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. Mr. Day spoke about his lifelong work as a beekeeper and how important bees are to the pollination of plants and trees. The Kiwanis Club members enjoyed and appreciated his presentation.
