Charles Deen, age 68, of Douglas, GA passed away on Monday, January 23, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Deen was born on April 12, 1948, in Douglas, GA to the late James Albert Deen and Frances Leola Anderson Deen. The Coffee High Robotics Team qualified two VEX robots for the 2017 Georgia State Championship this past Saturday, January 21. The team did so by winning the Lowndes High School qualification tournament and by taking home the trophy for best engineering robot in the competition. The team’s two qualifying robots made it to the state tournament, which sends 19 robots to the World Championships in Louisville, KY, in late April, via two different paths. Each nine weeks, students at West Green Elementary have the opportunity to earn a special reward called “Pizza with the Principal” at the end of the grading period. There were first, second, and fifth grade students who earned the reward for the end of the second nine weeks. The first grade students who earned the reward have learned at least 600 sight words.
